Mexican folkloric dance occupies an unusually powerful position within the country's cultural imagination. Throughout its history, Mexico’s national soul has emerged from dozens of regional traditions that have come to signify far more than entertainment. Their music, costumes, gestures, rhythms, gender roles, and regional associations constitute a recognizable visual and embodied symbol of mexicanidad. To celebrate Mexican Independence, Tucson Mexico Sister Cities is pleased to present a performative cultural journey through the history of Mexico’s traditional folklorico dance.
